PRP Therapy

Dr. Meadows uses platelet-rich plasma (PRP) therapy to treat orthopedic conditions that cause pain, as well as common ligament, tendon, cartilage injuries. It can also treat patients with severe arthritis who are not candidates for surgery or do not want to have surgery. As a hand and shoulder specialist, rotator cuff tears are one of the most common injuries Dr. Meadows uses PRP therapy to treat.

This is a low-risk, non-invasive treatment. Since the injection is made of biological material found in your own blood, there is minimal risk of infection or adverse reaction. Compared to surgery, PRP therapy also offers benefits for faster pain relief and healing. Platelets attract stem cells to trigger natural regeneration of healthy tissues. PRP therapy is also advantageous for people who are not candidates for orthopedic surgery.

The procedure takes about one or two hours from start to finish. It is all done in the office. We begin by collecting a fresh blood sample from which we can harvest the platelet-rich plasma for the injection. The plasma is injected directly into the diseased or damaged tissues. If needed, you can have up to three therapeutic injections within six months.

Dr. Meadows was one of the first orthopedic surgeons in South Florida to offer PRP therapy to his patients. He has seen excellent results in his patients with this treatment, many of which have completely avoided a more costly surgical procedure.
